Overheard: Moving to Memphis

Overheard: Moving to Memphis

Overheard this exchange in a bar the other day:

Memphis? Didn’t you get the memo?”

“I know, I know. I’m supposed to be moving to Portland.”

“Everybody that moves away from here moves to Portland!”

“There’s no music scene in Portland. It’s much better in Memphis.”

“Really? Most people here are under the impression that everything is better in Portland.”

Fittingly, I’m reading A Good Place to Live: America’s Last Migration. I finished the Portland chapter this week. Next up: Vancouver.

Mt. St. Helens, east Portland.

  • Is there already a Wisconsin chapter, or do you have to print up your own and tape it in?

    • There’s a Twin Cities chapter, which is pretty close to La Crosse, but I think The Land of Beer and Cheese is just assumed to be a good place to live, no chapter necessary.
