Sonoran / Mexican Hot Dogs in Tucson at El Guero Canelo
Chicago hot dog, I have and will always love you. We fell in love in Chicago nearly a decade ago, and I feasted on your tastiness in Bisbee, Arizona, where they import Vienna Beef hot dogs and poppy-seed buns. You are delicious and yummy and wonderful. But alas, I have a new love — the Sonoran hot dog.
Now, Chicago dog, fear-not. My love is like that of a Morman polygamist — I can love more than one hot dog! Think of the Sonoran dog as another wife. You may learn to love her too.
Called by some the Mexican hot dog, she’s spectacular. I never knew I wanted my hot dogs wrapped in bacon until I heard of this madness for the first time. Wrapped in mesquite-smoked BACON! Never in my most filthy food dreams could I have conceived of such pleasure. The Mexican dog sends shivers down my spine with its chopped tomatoes, onions, salsa, pinto beans, mayo, mustard, mushrooms, and shredded cheese toppings. And the bun, my goodness the bun — it’s light and slightly sweet and fluffy … I could caress it all day!
Yes, my first time was at El Guero Canelo, but there will be another time and more after that. Many say the hot dogs served at BK Carne Asada & Hot Dogs are even spicier and tastier. I will find out! Chicago hot dog, I am sorry I could not be faithful, but you must understand — it’s wrapped in bacon.
Update: BK Taco’s Sonoran dog is better than El Guero Canelo’s. It has spicier toppings and smokier bacon, and it’s served with a charred chili. It’s my favorite, and maybe the best Mexican hot dog in Tucson.
