@piesandpints Makes Us Want To Move To Charleston, WV
Pies and Pints, damn you. We were just going to stop in Charleston, West Virginia (aka: the most northern city of the South, the most southern city of the North, Chemical Valley, The Capital City, Chucktown, Charly West) for the library WiFi, but we arrived a bit late, stayed a bit long, and needed a meal. I found Pies and Pints on the interwebs. Lisa and I strolled down the street and stepped in. We ordered a Greek salad to split and the white pizza. Beers too, natch.
Damn, it was good. The salad was loaded with Feta and olives. The pizza was topped with entire cloves of roasted garlic. Entire cloves! The meal was great and fast and not-too-expensive.
And now I want to move here.
When we left, bellies full, we noticed the brick-paved sidewalks and vibrant downtown. We walked over to the river and took in the view. A bookstore and a bunch of bars tried to lure us in. We continued to stroll down the too-cute streets. Man, this is a good town and we didn’t even see it coming.
Charleston, WV has the trifecta of greatness: it’s a capital city and a college town and it has an old, compact downtown. Add in the mountains and the river and the pizza and the beer and … I wish I had heard about this town sooner.
See you again, Charleston, WV. Hopefully soon. Thanks for the epiphany, Pies and Pints.
