It’s not 2012 anymore. Dammit. That was a good year, wasn’t it? Here are our 5 most popular posts from last year: Travel Laptop Recommendations. Thank you, Google. Some readers even bought one. I’ll have to revisit this again now that CES is happening. Decaying Detroit Photos. I have no idea why I love this town so much. It’s another world. The Third World. About Us. We want to keep traveling, that’s no secret. We’re not itching to return to commutes and commitments. We want to see more of the world, man. There’s so much more to see! So, how to do it? We don’t really know … yet. But we think we should have a home base, an axis to pivot around, something more than a storage closet. And that makes things complicated. When you […]

Enough moaning, time to start planning. Here are the places in the running for a Q1 Driving Inertia visit: New York (Manhattan and Brooklyn). We’ve never been to Brooklyn minus passing through it on the way to Manhattan. 2013 is our year. This one has to happen in January before our Chicago buddies head back to Chicago.  Florida. We want to get back to the St. Joseph peninsula, get some self-serve […]

End of Year Wanderlust

Last week we were circling the Midwest. A couple weeks before that, we traveled for Thanksgiving. Before that, we were adapting to stationary life in our new home base, Trumansburg. Which is a long way of saying I’ve got the itch, the travel itch. I could really go for some Barcelona art. Hell, I’d even be up for some Canadian red wine. I want my undies to stink like ass […]

Lisa posted her favorite places list weeks ago. Here are mine: Quiet places It was on our first day in Death Valley that Lisa noticed it. We’d left Tecopa and were driving in via Highway 178. We got out of our car to scramble around and Lisa stopped me. “Do you hear that?” she asked. There were no planes overhead, no cars on the road, no rustling leaves, no voices […]

2,500 Miles for Christmas

By     |    Dec 14, 2012

Well, we just got back from an early Christmas visit in Wisconsin. Took us 2,500 miles! I can’t believe it. Of course, there were some sidetracks and loop-dee-loops. First we drove to Lake Geneva, then Indianapolis, then La Crosse, then back to Trumansburg. When’s Google going to start selling those self-driving cars? We’ll be first in line. Read more about Ben Madeka’s art here and here.

So … that was cool, huh? Yeah, we miss the road. I mean, sure, we have an apartment, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end. Think of it as us catching our breath. No, we don’t have much planned. No, we don’t have real jobs. No, we’re not broke, but we’re not as fixed as we were before. Sure, the PowerBall would have been nice, but I tallied up everything […]

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. If I had two wishes that I could wish for this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and […]

Lots of Driving, Lots of Fun

Wow, what a long weekend. We’re back in Trumansburg after about 1,500 miles of driving and 15 pounds of turkey eating. What fun! We returned to a not-yet-done roof and a still-ugly house … and a thermostat reading 45°. Our pilot light has been re-lit and we’re rekindling our excitement for the area with a copy of Edible Finger Lakes. Lisa’s already learned that there’s a local salt vein we […]
